There are so many emotions wrapped up in nourishing ourselves and our families. From the excitement and nervousness of starting solids, the frustrations of picky eating, and the worry we have for our kids as they gain independence and explore their own relationship with food. As a mom to two school-aged kiddos (who are very different eaters) I too feel all the emotions that comes with feeding kids. This understanding fuels my passion as a pediatric dietitian to help families and kids feel confident and supported as they navigate the complexities of nutrition.
My nutrition journey started in Atlantic Canada with undergraduate and graduate degrees in Nutrition from Acadia University and Mount Saint Vincent University. It was through this education that I was exposed to pediatric nutrition, as well as research on how families struggle with feeding their families. The beginnings of my dietetic career are rooted in food security and the social determinants of health. Understanding how systematically difficult it is to feed families, as well as personally with my own kiddos, I have a strong desire to wrap my clients in a big (virtual) hug and validate that feeding kids is tough.
When I’m not working, you may find me relaxing with a coffee and good book, but more likely I’ll be chauffeuring kids to and from activities and drinking that coffee on the go. My family loves to move, and they motivate me to keep up! Together we can be found downhill skiing and mountain biking, hiking to a gorgeous view, or taking dog walks in the neighbourhood. Fun fact about me – I loathe asparagus, unless it is cooked perfectly. I love quoting random movies and music in conversation. In a recent client conversation about a toddler tantrum the mom said “screaming, crying...” and I added “perfect storm”. IYKYK
